And to see teh effects of it. And what better time, then when I dont have a job I have to go to?

It's too bad his show didn't work out.

I forgot whose idea it was originally.
Sleep for 20 minutes about every 3 hours.

Tell your gf to keep you awake.

Whatever you do, do not lie down.

Seriously, and don't sit in anything too comfortable.

When you feel you're getting sleepy get up and do something for a while.

Longest time I've been awake was 40+ hours once, at the end I didn't check the time anymore lol. Was with a party for which I had to get up early to help arrange everything and it went on a bit longer than expected.

One of my few hobbies is staying up for 72 consecutive hours. If it's done correctly then at the end I can't even tell what's real and where I am. Definitely one of the best feelings.

To stay up that long, mesh, you need a few key things:

English cult movies (or American b movies like Killer Klowns from Outer Space)
Peanut Butter (chunky preferred)
Tomato Sauce (if there isn't any peanut butter)
Cold Air
A frizbee

It takes practice but it's worth it.

For about 4 days in April I went with about 2-3 hours of sleep per night. You'll get tired on day 2, detox shakes day 3, delirious day 4. I crashed about 7:30 day 5.

Christophe is right about not lying down. That is doom.

This is something I never seem to learn. I always tell myself I'll just close my eyes for five minutes. Pfft.

I did manage, once, to rest for about half an hour by setting my alarm clock to go off immediately and then pressing the snooze button over and over.

Take lots of walks outdoors.

Yea, you have to keep up enough energy so that you can go walk outside at night, and if the air is cool it's refreshing.

This sounds fun and like a really bad idea at the same time. I must do it, but first I have to get some real coffee in the house and get myself well rested for a few days prior.
Hmm, yes I have to find a good time to do that.

does anyone actually disagree w/ me that staying awake for 40 hours, just "To see how far I can push myself on my own will power", isn't simply retarded? it's right up there w/ me saying, "for a goal, i'm gonna try to smoke 10 boxes of ciggarettes today". if you're moving away from drugs and alcohol, the unhealthy lifestyle, making a goal of not sleeping is not much different.

choke Posted: Mon Jun 14 17:01:59 2004 Post | Quote in Reply
i dont agree or disagree, its not something i would do, because quite simply i dont care.. but its funny to watch other people munt themselves.. kinda like when someone falls over..

Doing something just to 'test' yourself never did make sense to me, however I love staying up late and worship night time. So I'd have to disagree in this case, partly 'cause mesh is my buddy and I gotta stick up for him. If I could be nocturnal I would, in a heartbeat.
On an unrelated matter, yeasterday I forgot to eat all day and then ate a large meal and couldn't get to sleep. I *forgot* to eat... I scare myself.

i also enjoy the night time, but this has absolutely nothing to do w/ what time of the day it was or is. and agreeing w/ someone 'cause they're your friend just slaps you in the dumbass catagory also. a true friend would call mesh a dumb ass.

As his friend I'll neglect to call him a dumbass when he is one. I call that loyalty, and it's not the only reason I disagreed with you, I also didn't say I agreed with mesh.
Sleep deprivation is one of the safer highs in the world, keeping it up till your body rebels is just plain dumb. Sugar and sleep deprivation are the two highs I'm familiar with. Forty hours is not that bad, pushing it farther than that is not wise.

well doctor mouse, i think you forgot one that i'm sure you're familiar w/. how 'bout the old lie down and roll down a hill trick?

i dunno about the "sleep deprivation high" for me, if i have anything less than 6 hours of sleep, it's maybe 5 minute periods of giddyness than hours of torture keeping my eyelids open. and shit, i can get grumpy when i'm tired.

perhaps i was wrong to call mesh a dumb ass. as my mother said, "you can call someone's actions dumb but never call them dumb." so i take back my statement, mesh, i apoligize, you are not a dumb ass, but staying up for 40 hours is fucking retarded, unless you're Bruce Willis in a Die Hard Movie.

I think the longest I've stayed up is around 36 hours.

After the first night, I feel pretty lousy. After the second night, I feel pretty awesome. However there is always a little voice in my head that wants to know what the hell I think I'm doing (missy!). Twat doesn't shut up.
