I know, the title has nothing to do with this latest rant of mine. Deal with it
: )

I was thinking about why I have such a difficult time with republicans and I concluded that a large part of it has to do with their recent historical ties to religion.
Delving back into my past encounters and with current acquaintences I realized they are, by and large, a very judgemental group if you happen to disagree with any of their moral stances.

A co-worker where I work is an ardent supporter of Bush. He also keeps a large bible at his desk. He emailed another co-worker last week and matter of factly informed him that the theory of evolution is a lie, based on false assumtions from errant scientists and archeological discoveries.

My neighbor years ago up north, who was also a republican and a fundamentalist, had no qualms about blaming the severe drought we were experiencing at the time on "the wrath of God for those homosexuals".
My mother (god bless her) will never vote for a democrat because they think it's okay to murder babies.

I grew up in the bible belt, I went to a religious college, I come from a conservative upbringing. I literally have hundreds of experiences to draw from that show a clear connection between fundamentalist religion and republicans. If you examine any analysis of election exit polls over the past 40 years here it substantiates this connection.
Our current president openly admits that he is an evangelical christian.

Before casper, hif and others jump all over this I understand that not every republican is a religious fanatic, and that one could find democrats that are (they're out there somewhere). I'm speaking in generalities here, but I believe there is rock solid truth in these generalities.

So I ask those of you out there that will mark your ballot for Bush in November how you can align yourself with a party that makes discrimination against gays part of their official platform?
How could you associate with a party where a very significant number of its members would condemn you and lock you up for smoking a joint?
How can you justify voting for a party that openly courts the moral majority and religious right? Those that would tell you that god created the world literally in 6 days, that Noah gathered all the animals in an arc, and that Eve talked Adam into eating the apple?

How can you support a party that is overwhelmingly made up of people telling us that a women has no right to decide for herself? That she needs the government to tell her what she can and cannot do with her body?
How can you follow a party that shoves the sanctity of life down our throats, but then turns a blind eye to the killing of innocent civilians overseas in a questionable war, approves of capital punishment here, and also supports the NRA and the use of semi-automatic weapons "for hunting animals"?

More than likey you support a party that, if they knew any details about your personal lifestyle, would find something to condemn you to hell for.

I'm convinced that Jesus himself would shake the dust from his feet and walk away in disgust from the Republican convention (maybe from the Democratic one as well).
The hypocracy is dumbfounding. I can see not liking democrats. I can see backing the socialist, or the green party, or even the Libertarians. I can understand being apathetic or apolitical....
But I cannot see thinking of yourself as an educated, well-informed, tolerant, open-minded, compassionate human being and then aligning yourself with a political party that historically represents just the opposite.

*sorry, hif, I won't directly respond to any posts you might make on a political topic. I've had enough head bashing. I also have enough insecurities to deal with without being referred to as Addi-Shit-For-Brains from now on.

maybe your problem is you live in a predominant republican environment...i live in a democratic majority area and i see many of the same problems with them that you do with the republicans. maybe the problem is that both parties are broke dicks...

As you said, there are many Republicans that wouldn't ever consider a Democrat because of a single issue like gay marriage. Abortion, I think, is the worst issue, because with that you've got people on both sides ready to completely ignore anything you say because of your abortion views. Normally in debate I won't even say what my views on abortion are because it ruins a possibly good debate.

I can't remember their name, but there's actually a group made up of Republicans that goes around to things like funerals of people who died of AIDS with signs that say 'God hates fags.' It's this kind of extreme religion that many Republicans enjoy that doesn't even make sense because for it to be right they have to ignore much of the New Testament.

LOL! Yeah, you may be on to something there.

I do acknowledge that both parties are made up of humans so both have their faults. I guess my point was that I see a scarey religious connection with the republican party that i don't see so much with the other parties.

i don't think religion is so prevelant in the party...i know plenty of republicans that have sold their soul and anybody else's they can get a hold of...the problem is the current administration IS very much religous and he has made some decisions based on his religious views. so far the only religious based decision he's made that i don't really agree with was limiting stem cell research. there may be other i don't like and i just don't know about them :) but these are things i can live with so i will prolly vote for him unless something else comes up between now and then.

and my dislike of kerry has nothing to do with swiftboats :) personally i think something that he did over 30 years ago has absolutely no bearing on what kind of president he will be. no matter what happened with him during that time period i'm sure he has changed dramatically since then. i'm more interested in what he thinks now than what he thought when he was what? in his 20's? hell...my viewpoints have changed since i was 20 and i'm only 26 now! :)

A friend of me and my father's threated to shoot him in his sleep if Bush won since he's not voting for Kerry. My dear father replied that she was welcome too, he'd be armed and waiting. ;) I love my dad, he's a riot.
I keep thinking that if only more people knew about Libertarians then we could crack into the two party system.
I myself am still teetering between Michael Badnarik and Kerry, even though I want to vote for Badnarik. Oh, the stress of my first election year. :/

You see, I made what I consider to be a reasonable and respectful rebuttal to most of your points, although I know you disagree with them, the point is that yours is not the only way and there are lots of enlightened educated intelligent guys on both sides of center.
From my perspective, the dems are the party that openly courts Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and Ted Kennedy. I think all three should be in prison for life.
I think they are the party that wants the govt to coddle you from cradle to the grave and keep welfare families on welfare.
I think they have and would weaken our military to the point of extreme vulnerability so they can spend more money on entitlements.
I could go on but I'm watching the olympics.

You know Fundamentalist Baptist Democrats?!!

First of all, I doubt the truth of that statement, but let's say you do because Kentucky is a fucked up state. So what? There's probably a few hundred thousand that fall into that category in all the united states. Hardly a visable blip on the voting radar screen.
Meanwhile there's how many million registered republican christian fundamentalists here? Do you have a clue as to how big Jerry Falwell's mailing list is?
DID I ever say there are absolutely no conservative christian democrats?

Well, that's a sexist thing to say

T'was a bit harsh I know.

I guess I got tired of calling shit something other than what it really is...shit. You make broad sweeping generalities and then try to pass it off as fact, hif. It's a trademark of yours on political threads. Either that or you copy and paste some tripe from one of your conservative web site Guru's, believing that what they say are nuggets of gold, when it's just nuggets of more mouth diarrhea.

saying there are fundamentalist democrats is like saying there are theistic atheists, or Muslim Lutherans. The two don't go together.
There are all types in this crazy country so I'll conceed that there may be some out there, but certainly not a significant amount.
There are conservative to moderate republicans
There are conservative to liberal democrats
I was referring to true Bible thumping fundamentalists.
There is a huge difference. You twist my words into what you want to hear.

The Democratic party represents everything religious fundamentalists despise: Pro-choice, Pro-gay, Anti-Family Values, Stem-cell research, Feminism, etc, etc...

Yeah, there may be lots of democrats in Kentucky, but they're called conservative democrats. They are not fundamentalist democrats, in the true definition of the word. Fundamentists, as a group, do not vote democratic.

The modern Democratic Party has embraced everything the Republican Bible belt fundamentalists hate. Don't tell me otherwise. It makes you sound like a open minded republican, which we know doesn't even exist : )

That has/is changing. Religion has entered the picture. The poor of Kentucky with strong religious values are now switching parties in large numbers. Recent voting patterns bare this out.
Kenyucky (typo, but I think I'll keep it) voted for Bush in 2000, and has several state congressmen that are republican.
Kenyucky is certainly not almost 100% democratic.

I dun know, Bud. Maybe there's a lot of hypocrites in Kensucky.
Ya know back in the 1800's a lot of christian slave owners thought it was biblical to own africans as slaves because blacks were created by God as inferior to whites. It turns out humans will justify about anything if it lines their pockets.

Now to the facts...
2000 Presidential election
Gore 42 %
Bush 57%

Both Senators are Republican
The Governor is Republican
Out of the 6 house members 4 are Republican

Polls show Bush beating Kerry in the 2004 election in Kenfucky.

Guess ya can't get more democratic than that, eh!

If any of the above is incorrect, hif, you just point it out and I'll give you a written apology.

I don't need or expect an apology from you Addi.

If you check a little deeper you might find that the reason for the recent republican additions to our elected officials have nothing to do with religion. It has everything to do with dissatisfaction with the dems who have been in place for most of the 20th century, at least in my state. Even still, it is overwhelmingly democrat.
Dems outnumber republicans in our state legislature 80 to 57 and if you canvas the mayors and alderman around the state you will find an even greater disparity there.

Yeah I don't know what's up but I'm acting strange lately.

On here I seem to be pretty polite and stuff, but in the last week I've called 2 people I had never met before trailertrash to their face and made fun of another guy in the group I go out with (although I had never seen that guy before) untill he decided he couldn't take it anymore and left. Has been a while since so laughed so hard, but that's not the point.

I'm pissed off for some reason but don't really know why.

Must be lack of sex.

Then again, YOU guys are the ones talking about hitting her from the back. And being female myself- most self-respecting females don't like it when stuff like that is said behind their backs.

I've been wondering about that scythe. What does it stand for?

I just got back from a night of clubbing, it's around 6 or something, but my computer was still on so I decided to check with you guys before going to bed.

I had a great time, but as always I'm feeling slightly depressed now that I'm home again. (Not that I don't like "home". I love my home in every sense of the word.)

I'm tired, my clothes are dirty, my ass hurts, and I don't want to go to bed alone right now.

Nostalgia is hitting me hard when thinking about how I used to come home and cuddle my gf to sleep and keeping her warm/secure after being so tired.

Not that I miss my ex lol (seriously) but I really really really miss that feeling of sleeping together with my "gf" whoever that might be, not only the figurative definition of the expression.

To my great and pleasant surprise the girl I'm interested in was there (I thought she was going to another party) and we spent a while talking and dancing, it's been a while since I've felt better than just "neutral", but as they say over here; nice songs don't last for long and she had to go home very quickly. I wanted her to leave with me so bad.

I'm guessing I'll talk to her on msn tomorrow (or today, depending on how you want to look at it). Really have to sort this stuff out. The 1 minute I want a relationship and the next minute I don't.

I don't know if she wants me in a relationship kind of way either and I'm scared to get hurt by her. I have a really hard time coping with somebody having this kind of power over me.

Fuck it all

Doesn't really stand for anything in particular, just a general idea. It's the best of several I drew, inspired by a video game. :) I'm considering using a scythe in my next halloween costume.

I had two living outside my back yard fence up until this past spring. There's a lake behind my house and they kept damning up a portion of it and causing floods in the houses nearby. Finally the city came and tore down everything with bulldozers, including their home and damns. I haven't seen any sign of them since.

Humans: one
Beavers: zero
We lose!

Brazilian beavers... How do I know what they are?? Do I have one??

I know what they are because I own a beaver. And all women are educated about the proper care of beavers.

If it's a naked beaver... Well, I'm not SO crude as to tell.

Females seem to have a gift at handling beavers. It's men that need to be educated about the proper care of these mysterious animals.

One of the beaver's that used to live behind me i think had Tourette's Syndrome . It was a cute fuzzy animal, but sometimes it would be chewing on a tree and out of nowhere start yelling, "FUCK YOU TREE!"
