dumb question
beetlebum Posted: Mon Jan 24 17:14:45 2005 Post | Quote in Reply
What does MO stand for? As in, "He always treats girls like that-- that's his M.O." Or in crime dramas you hear that term quite a bit.
I may have spelled it completely wrong, but I've asked no less than ten people... all knew how to use it (ummm, I think), but no one knew what the letters stood for.
Thanks, GT:)
One more question answered.

i'm not sure what it means, though i've heard the term used as well. maybe you could google it.

i was wondering if you could tell me why there is such a gap between the dates on the entries in the forum. where's all the recent stuff?

thx,

*lazy el

server crash or something. i'm not knowledgeable about computers in any shape or form (or websites, which is something altogether different), but for whatever reason, the site lost everything that hadn't been backed up or whatever. and the last time that happened was in november.
jq (the webmater extraordinare) could explain it better than m'self.
but there you go.

Puck Is fine to have a question..nobody is born knowing. I admire people who is able to ask instead of following the mob, requires courage and enough truth to ourself and just admit we do not know. Beetlebum, you are welcome.

but welcome to GT, Citizen. I noticed you just came on yesterday.

BTW, puck is a good guy, and my welcoming you shouldn't be construed as me hitting on you.

I was just up, getting some taco mush and considering the name "thecitizen." It made me imagine a parody of The Apprentice, but instead of having Trump say, "You're fired." It's Bush and he says, "You're deported." or "You're a terrorist SOB." or something.

i learned what M.O. was by watching Law and Order with my dad. He is better than dictionary.com or our entire encyclopedia...except that he will tell you information without you asking for it, a fine trade off for the amount of usless stuff i have been fortunate to learn.

Hey, I knew the question was dumb, give me a break.:)
And I did run across the Quad in my pyjamas (it was cold and rainy out), up the stairs to the Library. Got there. Couldn't remember the code to get in. Ran back down the stairs, across the Quad, (could remember the code to get into the second door on the Quad), ran up four flights of stairs, across a hallway, up two more, then grabbed the sheet with the new codes.
Back down again.
Across the Quad.
Up the stairs.
To the library.
I think that every library in Oxford has the enormous Oxford English dictionary that sits like a magic book on a podium in the back under a light.
Looked m.o. up.
got this:
M.O. = MASS OBSERVATION n. M.O. Mil., medical officer. M.O. Chem. (also m.o.), molecular orbital. M.O., money order.
Disappointed, I came and called friends. And sent emails. And posted on GT.
Then, this morning, after reading Puck's comments, I ran to the library in my pyjamas once again.
And there is was: m.o. (lowercase!) following everything else in tiny print. I had simply missed it.
I apologize, Puck, for wasting your time or anyone elses.:) I promise, though, that thecitizen's comment made my lovely day.
(PS: I didn't even think about dictionary.com. Sorry!)
