The wonderful thing about working in an office
CorDrine Posted: Tue Mar 1 10:03:26 2005 Post | Quote in Reply
Ok ok, so the subject title is a bit oxymoronic, but hey, I was like, shitting in the toilet the other day at my office, and it suddenly hit me that I should start a thread like this. So let me first contribute some:

1. I get unlimited supply of toilet paper in the toilet! So always do your business in the office instead of at home where you have to pay for your own rolls!

2. Unlimited supply of air-con as well in hot hot hot singapore. Poor old me don's have an aircon at home yet.

3. Unlimited supply of printing paper so long as you don't print any manuals, they pretty much leave you alone.

can't think of anymore, its pass my bedtime.... *yawn*

hmph. I don't get that kind of stuff in my office...

well, I get unlimited toilet paper, and air conditioning.

Free muffins, juice (it's an eye surgery center and that's what we have for the patients when they get out of surgery.)

Medical information...whether I want to hear it or not. I know what a lot of different kinds of eye surgery are-and various gross things that can happen to peoples' eyes.

Knowledge of privacy laws and medical computer programs.

Mine are boring...

free research on companies (our customers paid tons of money for it)

trading floor environment (especially when markets are slow, traders are fun)

I'm not cut out for office work.

I prefer things like, construction, hand on a fishing vessel, military, armed guard(current).

One day I want to be a shark wrangler down in Oz, I mean, dang.

I've had some awesome jobs, and I plan on having many more before I die.

I work in an office. I don't like it. I don't like cubicles. I don't like feeling closed in all day. And to make matters worse we're on the 12th floor and I don't like heights. If there was an emergency I'd probably have to jump, and it would probably hurt when i met the ground, not to mention what the wind would do to my hair.

  I currently despise school.
But I think I would despise an office job more.
But probably not as much as my current job.
But maybe.

Either way, I don't like thinking about it.

I like the movie Office Space though. SO GOOD.

I want to stay in school forever...just cut back on the exams. Assignments are fine. But exams...they're just horrible.

I'd dig it more if all my teachers were capable of doing their job. (I'm sorry, but I'm not learning french by doing word-finds and cross-word puzzles.)

>I like the movie Office Space though. SO GOOD.

"Human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day; filling out useless forms; listening to eight different bosses drone on about mission statements."
I hope I didn't screw that up.

I'm used to being able to see sky, feel wind, hear birds.
God I hate being trapped inside with professors who talk in circles and tangents.

I could have free highspeed web access, but I'm too busy to ever use it. :(
Ah, the unspoken school perk, and I don't think I'm alone with this one, daily access to cute guys to oh-so-subtly stare at.
Of course, I had that situation cornered even better when I was working for my dad. Oh well, there's always this summer.

*if anyone mentions this post in the future I will deny knowledge of it. ;P

  hmmm...the good things...

Good internet connection

A wireless laptop

a cell phone w/ an ungodly number of mins

a pretty open and free schedule

ability to leave the office for jobsite work

a decent pay check

a decent way to make a living

...not so good things...

high strung co-workers who think they are saving the world when they are really only selling lighting equipment

sharing an office with a man who belches, farts and grabs his nuts all the time, and apparently is oblivious to the fact that he's doing any of them

an operations manager who seems to have a habit of micromanaging

salesmen who promise the world and forget to tell you

customers who don't know a thing

office politics

hmmm, I'm sure there are more but this was strangly carthdic after a bad day...

For what its worth...
