Simple Pleasures

Is there anything that calms you down completely, removing all woes and worries?

For me, a lá Amelie, it could be dipping my hand into a big bowl of M&Ms or sipping my special tea (Chinese Honey Dew White) while reading or sketching or writing or just zoning in this perfect spot where I can see my entire campus. Also, doing that last one curled up in my ultrafine linens when they're dryer fresh.

riding in a car at night with good music and people i can be silent around without feeling uncomfortable. And then someone starts a sentance in the middle, but it doesn't matter because we all know what she/he's talking about...

A boy tucking my hair behind my ear.
A quiet touch from my boyfriend when we're somewhere: a hand on my back, shoulder, etc.
Trees (esp. eucalyptus trees blowing in the wind)
walking quietly around the cemetary near my house
puppies
my bird and his sweet kisses and the way he looks over the top of my cereal bowl to see what i'm having and if he can steal some
a kiss
a hug

the ocean

-like crim said, getting a blowjob makes you forget about any situation, nothing beats that.
-Taking a drive by myself and humming along with either classical music played way too loud, or some folk to sing along with, or oldies (try driving at night singing along to The Chordettes - Mr. Sandman playing loud enough that you can't hear yourself singing). Currently, I don't have a car anymore though.
-watching a horror movie with a gf and feel her cuddling up to me
-standing or walking in the rain in an empty street.
-getting a "sweet dreams" message on my mobile phone from a gf
-giving a massage (no guys though, sry hif)
-irony (though this might seem a bit paradoxal at first, it does calm me down and can make me laugh about how funny it all is, even when it is to my own disadvantage)
-my grandmother's cooking
-noticing details that have a small chance of being noticed
-the smell of a gf's hair

Other stuff too that I'm forgetting about

  grandma's cooking
lying on the beach
snowboarding fast in powder
driving fast
writing
playing defense in most sports
getting drunk
sleeping
sushi
walking around the block--especially at night with no people or cars around--especially in fresh snow that hasn't been plowed and you look back behind ya and it's just the line of foot prints and maybe a set of tire marks striping the road. and the silence.
solo skinny-dipping
watching/smelling a camp fire on a summer night where you gotta either use a blanket or wear a big hooded sweatshirt...

Not having to wake up and do 4 hours of community service for pissing outside a bar.

Sitting under the covered teracce when it's raining outside

swimming at the sea at night
the touch of cool breeze on a hot summer evening
my dog
looking through really old childhood pictures
giving people flowers (with no special reason for it)
chocolate
hot tea
shoes (shopping for them, trying them on, just looking at them, i just have this shoe thing...)
mixing music, creating playlists on my computer

mmm hmm. and burning things in camp fires like gi joe (sp?) figurines that you've found or charcoal bags (they make amazing colors). and, for that matter, hooded sweatshirts. they're cozy.

I think my major problem is that I really DON'T have anything that calms me down completely.

I used to have cigarettes. Now, I don't even drink much.

well, time to kick up that old heroin habit (taps elbow twice)

+ Cozy socks once that day is over and you are relaxing in a cooled off house.
+ Traveling on coach buses at night, alone.
+ Hugs from behind.
+ Singing in the shelter at the bus stop.
+ Having your little sister grab your hand to say hello.
+ Soft kisses on my eyelids.

+ Developping un-labled rolls of film.
+ Making your own music.
+ Being able to say something nice to someone in their language.
+ Riding your bike a long way to see someone.

+ Oatmeal before bed.
+ Wearing hoodies.

the realisation that knuckle is just like a little knee.... but in your hand!

well, maybe not the realisation itself, but the situation under which is was realised. my best friend and i become like amazed children when we smoke weed. we made pancake batter sitting on the floor, just adding stuff til it looked right. we drink milkshakes noisily. we act like idiots.

luckily, i also do this in my 'normal' state of mind. hoorah.

  (continued)

Walking on the beach hand in hand at sunset with the one you love and suddenly remembering that you left the gas oven burner on back at the beach house, so you run as fast as you can back and don't see the Portugese Man of War jellyfish washed up from high tide and you step on it barefooted and drop to the sand screaming in agony, "Pee on me...Quick, somebody pee on my foot!!" Meanwhile as you lay writhing in pain a ghost crab has decided to make his new home inside your bathing suit and crawls inside the leg of your swimming suit. The thrashing about disturbs him so he decides to clamp down on your left testicle with his huge pincher. As your screams suddenly take on a disturbingly high soprano pitch you realize that the course sand has now worked it's way up inside your butt crack, and feels like 60 course grit sandpaper rubbing against your private parts. As the pain becomes too much to bare you go into a state of shock and fall back unconscious and motionless, as the ocean waves gently lap and caress your body. In this peaceful place you suddenly have a flash of insight. You don't really like the girl you're with...you're really gay, and have had a secret crush on Professor Werner ever since eighth grade biology class. You only dated this girl because she had a moustache above her lip just like he had. And as you slowly regain consciousness you raise your head slightly from the salty water and watch as the flaming sun dissapears beneath the cerulean blue and pink horizon.

Ahhhhh....life's simple pleasures
