Reminiscing

All this talk of the GT community made me realized something. Back when I found this site, and eventually bothered to scroll down and notice the forum, I became familiar with the names of posters, mostly Addison (back in the good old days of all the letters), hif, and Christophe. But I could easily tell who had been here for a while and was in the 'GT Community.' It's really weird to think someone who started lurking now might see my name frequent threads and look at me in that way, because to me I still feel like a newbie.

I was also thinking about how I got started. I picked the best-sounding conspiracy on the internet at the time, which happened to be the whole KUBARK thing, and cannon balled into the pool. Anyone else remember how you first left your GT mark?

  Searching for quotes.

Then one day I noticed that there was a button marked "forum" as well.

And yes, that was a stupid grammar mistake.

for me, i found the site looking for quotes, and then months later revisited it, and found the forum. I didn't post right away, because i didnt have my own computer and i didn't want my parents over my shoulder while checking GT, so I didn't start attending frequently until after I got a computer for HS graduation.

One of the first things I ever posted was to ask the GTers about my complete lack of experience in the dating world and whether or not it was wierd that I had never had a boyfriend or even been kissed. I remember my first avatar (black and white picture of me, looking sidways at the camera, that my friend Erin took) and I remember returning and returning until I realized I had been here for awhile, and I felt like I 'knew' people. I also saw people leave, people who I saw as 'regulars.'
Now I post less frequently than I used to, probably, but I do read just about everything.

Update on the look-back into the GT past:

Does anyone remember that 153 post thread that went over the limit to stop about religion, called Petition to God? I remember checking that during study hall because I didn't want to miss out saying something. I just reread almost the whole thing. Where are you Erika?

My introduction, back when I was young, optimistic and semi-virginal:

I'm new to the site and notice a lot of "regulars". Some day, God willing, I'll be one too! This is a great site.

*I'm still hoping to become a regular someday

It is bizarre for me to look at your oldest threads Addison and see you introducing yourself to other GTers that in my memory have always been around.

Does anyone have more posts than Christophe? I had no idea Antartica had so many.

: )
I feel like I've always been around. I came for the interesting topics. I stayed for the sex.

I'm too lazy to look at the post counts tonight. I know if you look in Websters next to posting slut it says Addi, just below the entry for "slut: Nikki"

Chris, Hif, Chan, Ant, Mat_j, are the real old timers here..probably forgot a few others as well..that are still posting away.

*you're a good addition here, Zacq

I've been around since the summer of 2002 with several large spans of time when I went missing do to too much school.

I read regularly but post a lot less than I think I do. I'm coming up on three years and haven't even reached 300 posts.

I found this place looking for a quote like most everyone else but stayed for the conversation.

My first real conversation was with casper about the war in Afghanistan. I think it took me two months to reply directly to anything Christophe posted as I was still pretty timid at the time. I remember reading Addison and libra's intro posts but going through all of my old posts I didn't start a thread until just last fall (It was about children's books).

I guess in summary I seem to be the forums most dedicated lurker.

Found this site sometime around 1996 and 1997, pre-forum days I believe. I was looking for quotes. I frequented since then, and watched the forum conversations but never added anything. One of those people who was a lurker for years.

Not sure when I started posting but as I mentioned before my first few posts were under the name Kilohertz and I think I was looking for some advice because I was being stupid over women.

The rest, as they say, is history.

For what its worth...

I also found this while searching for quotes approx a year ago now - sitting in college when I should have been working - I got engrossed in reading the quotes and ended up looking through almost everything, myGT also. My freind sitting next to me also clicked on to it and we spent the rest of the day showing eachother poems and quotes from famous people or indead pieces from yourGT's which struck us and inspired us.
That day is most certainly to thank for the two of us being as good friends as we are today.

The forum was something I looked through regularly, It is the third site i visit whenever I connect to the net - after my two e-mail providers - threads within here always inspire emotion. It undoubtedly the best forum on the internet. Glad to have become a part of it.
