Don't know if we've ever done this, and if we have sorry for the repetition but post lyrics from songs that for some reason mean something to you(song doesn't have to be good, just a couple of lines to a verse that are special):
from nathan wiley's bottom dollar baby

Shes ringing in the year,
Taking down the walls,
Smile and pretend that you're not loving her

If you let her in,
She'll kick you while you're down,
Never will believe you're not loving her.

Though written for the wrong gender lol, I liked this song from the day I first heard it. It's by a Dutch woman who usually sings in English, she has a few other interesting songs but I like this one the best. I can relate to what she's singing, which isn't a good thing I know, but I'm honest about it.

Anouk - Nobody's Wife

I'm sorry for the times that I made you scream
for the times that I killed your dreams
for the times that I made your whole world rumble

for the times that I made you cry
for the times that I told you lies
for the times that I watched and let you stumble

It's too bad, but that's me
what goes around comes around, you'll see
that I can carry the burden of pain
'cause it ain't the first time that a man goes insane
and when I spread my wings to embrace him for life
I'm suckin' out his love, 'cause I, I'll never be nobody's wife

I'm sorry for the times that I didn't come home
left you lyin' in that bed alone
was flyin' high in the sky when you needed my shoulder

you're like a stone hangin' round my neck, see
cut it loose before it breaks my back, see
I've gotta say what I feel before I grow older

I'm sorry but I ain't gonna change my ways
you know I've tried but I'm still the same
I've got to do it my own way

It's too bad, but hey, that's me
what goes around comes around, you'll see
that I can carry the burden of pain
'cause it ain't the first time that a man goes insane
and when I spread my wings to embrace him for life
I'm suckin' out his love, I, I'll never be nobody's wife

It's too bad, but hey, that's me
what goes around comes around, you'll see
that I can carry the burden of pain
'cause it ain't the first time that a man goes insane
and when I spread my wings to embrace him for life
I'm suckin' out his love, I, I'll never be nobody's wife.

This is a song that I always sing when I come back from a night of clubbing or when I'm taking a walk at night or whatever.

Wannes Van De Velde - Ik Wil Deze Nacht In De Straten Verdwalen

Wannes van De Velde - I Want To Get Lost In The Streets Tonight

I want to get lost in the streets tonight,
the sound of the city makes my soul amorous,
even though I don't have any money to pay for pleasure,
I'll find a girly very fancy and generous,

Underneath the glow of the moon's rays,
The whole world turns into our nightly bed,
Come along with me to the bars full of women and sailors,
Forget your name and all the rest.

I want to get lost in the streets tonight,
the sound of the city makes my soul amorous,
even though I don't have any money to pay for pleasure,
I'll find a girly that fits my choice.

I want to get lost in the streets tonight,
the sound of the city makes my soul amorous,
even though I don't have any money to pay for pleasure,
I'll find a girly very fancy and generous.

Then let us digest the world together,
With tingling glasses full of French wine,
Sing along with the people that's what they like,
And don't ever let this night come to and end.

I want to get lost in the streets tonight,
the sound of the city makes my soul amorous,
even though I don't have any money to pay for pleasure,
I'll find a girly that fits my choice.

A similar song, in west-Flemish, but it's a bit much to translate. It's a song about an old farmer and his horse, and how happy both of them are together without any luxuries or comfort and stress. The Dutch speaking people here might like it.

Willem Vermandere - Blanche En Zijn Peird

Tussen Kortrijk en Lauwe
Blanch' en zijn peird
Mensch'n gaat gaan kijken
Want ‘t is ‘t kijken weird
Een peird en een karre
Al wel honderd jaar lang
Doet dagelijks die zelfsten eigenste gang

Blanche Blanche Blanche en zijn peird
Djuk djuk judjuk mijn peird

Djuk djuk judjuk mijn peird

‘k Voele heel goed dat je me niet ‘n verstaat
‘t Is niet de vitesse waar dat ‘t hem om gaat
Ook niet ‘t comfort van een sjieke slee
Maar rijd eerst ne keer met die karre mee

Oh, Blanche Blanche Blanche en zijn peird
Djuk djuk judjuk mijn peird

Djuk djuk judjuk mijn peird

Djuk djuk judjuk mijn peird

Djuk djuk judjuk mijn peird

Blanche

Oh, Blanche Blanche Blanche en zijn peird
Djuk djuk judjuk mijn peird

Djuk djuk judjuk mijn peird

Djuk djuk judjuk, oh.

I'll translate 1 paragraph of the song to give you a hint of what it conveys:

Ja, zo is ‘t leven en azo is ‘t goed
En je gaat ‘t niet verbeteren, hoe hard da je ook wroet
Vlieg naar de mane en schiet ‘t al kapot
‘k Zeg ekik maar datte, wie is ‘t er hier de zot

Yeah, such is life and this is how I like it
You won't improve it, no matter how hard you work
Fly to the moon and shoot everything to pieces for all I care
This is all I'm saying, but I ask you who's the crazy guy according to you

My boyfriend used to go(before very expensive gas and our new living arrangements) on a lot of drives...and this song always felt so perfect for us...

Death Cab for Cutie
"Passenger Seat"

I roll the window down
And then begin to breathe in
The darkest country road
And the strong scent of evergreen
From the passenger seat as you are driving me home.

Then looking upwards
I strain my eyes and try
To tell the difference between shooting stars and satellites
From the passenger seat as you are driving me home.

"do they collide?"
I ask and you smile.
With my feet on the dash
The world doesn't matter.

When you feel embarrassed then i'll be your pride
When you need directions then i'll be the guide
For all time.
For all time.

And this song is an almost perfect description of me and my boyfriend's situation right before we were dating...we were listening to it one day and I suddenly realized how fitting it was...it's a little painful to listen to now, actually, reminding me of all those confused times...

"Love Soon"

I know you've been sworn
I read your complaint
you're needing someone older
and though I've been warned to live day by day
there's something taking over

did you expect to kiss me one time
while looking at me with the same eyes ever again?
so come on and face it
so come on and face it
it's time that we say it

you can cross the line whenever you want to
I'm calling it love soon
close your mind and waste some time if you have to
I'm calling it love soon
it's not about you now
it's what we are

your mother complains that you need a man
you haven't mentioned me yet
and all of your friends don't know who I am
I've been your best kept secret

I understand I wasn't part of the plan
a dollar short, a minute early
but I am your man
so come on and face it
so come on and face it
it's time that we say it

you can cross the line whenever you want to
I'm calling it love soon
close your mind and waste some time if you have to
I'm calling it love soon
it's not about you now
it's what we are

let's bypass the bullshit and move on because
the minute hand moves faster than you think it does
and by no fault of yours and by no fault of mine
the bottom line is laying in the bed that we've been playing in tonight

you can cross the line whenever you want to
I'm calling it love soon
close your mind and waste some time if you have to
I'm calling it love soon
it's not about you now
it's what we are

  Shtil' - veter molchit
Upal beloj chajkoj na dno
Shtil' - nash korabl' zabyt
Odin, v mire skovannom snom

Mezhdu vseh vremen
Bez imen i lic
My uzhe ne zhdem,
Chto prosnetsia briz!

Shtil' - shodim s uma
Zhara pahnet chernoj smoloj
Smert' odnogo lish' nuzhna
I my, my vernemsia domoj!

Ego krov' i plot'
vnov' nasytit nas
A za smert' emu
Mozhet, Bog vozdast!

Chto nas zhdet, more hranit molchan'e
Zhazhda zhit' sushit serdca do dna
Tol'ko zhizn' zdes' nichego ne stoit
Zhizn' drugih, no ne tvoia!

Net, grom ne grianul s nebes
Kogda pili krov' kak zver'e
No nesterpimym stal blesk
Kresta, chto my IUzhnym zovem

I v poslednij mig
Podnialas' volna,
I razdalsia krik:
"Vperedi Zemlia!"

Calm - the wind is silent
(Calm) has fallen like a white seagull to the bottom
Calm - our ship is forgotten
Alone, in the world held down by a dream

Along all times
without names and faces
We're not waiting anymore,
for the breeze to wake up!

Calm - yeah
We are going mad
The heat smells like black pitch
Only one of us must die
and we'll, we'll come back home

His blood and flesh
will saturate us again
And for his death
maybe God will reward him

What is waiting for us, the sea keeps silent
Thirst to live drives hearts to their bottoms
But life here costs nothing
the life of others, but not yours!

No, the thunder did not burst from the heavens
when we drank blood like wild beasts
but the shining became intolerable
of the Cross that we call Southern *

And during the last instant
a wave rose,
and a shout was heard:
"Land is ahead!"

He waits for the midday's wind
the wave comes and lies down wearily
with a fan every day
the old one makes the water smooth

I throw the stone for fun
the water moves in circles
the old one looks sadly at me
and swept it smooth again

In the white sand, the old man
trembling, smokes his pipe
only the water and I know
why he needs this fan

The premonition sleeps like a volcano
hesitating, I asked him then
his head bent, it seemed he slept
before he died he said

The water shall be your mirror
only when it is smooth will you see
how many fairy tales are left for you
and you will plead for salvation

The fan pressed against his body
the hand stiffens with rigor mortis
they had to break his fingers
the fan stays back in the sand

I call the old one every day
for him to save me here
I stay back in the midday's wind
and I can read in the fan

The water shall be your mirror
only when it is smooth will you see
how many fairy tales are left for you
and you will plead for salvatio

This was a song that used to be on a mixed tape from my boyfriends car. I couldn't understand the words because they were in Japanes but the song struck a chord regardless. Eventually I looked up a translation and found that the lyrics were also quite appropriate. It's still one of my favorite songs.

Kaze Ga Fuku Hi (Windy Day)

Walking along the beautiful blue sea,
I realize again and again that
I worry about nothing but meaningless things.

On this day with the warm wind blowing, yesterday
seems terribly blinding...
sadly glimmering...
But

What can I do to learn to love myself?
If I learn to love myself more and more, then...

The morning I've never even seen before...
The song I've never even heard before...
The "me" that I've never even met before...
Maybe I can see them...

I line up self-satisfied words...
Even though we're going too fast, that's OK,
since unforseen feelings...

...have started to overflow in my heart
like they're being rushed...
since they're pushing up on me so much...
but

I'm always different
from who I wanted to be.
This isn't who I've wanted to be,
but I'm sure this is me.

If you would please
reach out and embrace me,
oh far sky,
I'd feel I'm alive.

I'll be watched over and protected throughout the world.
Sometimes I think that way, alone.
I'll be abandoned throughout the world.
Sometimes I feel like that.

What can I do to learn to love myself?
If I learn to love myself more and more, then...

The morning I've never even seen before...
The song I've never even heard before...
The "me" that I've never even seen met before...
Maybe I can see them...

Someday surely.

Very soon.

Very soon.

(The translation is not mine and might be a little rough, but I like it)

This is a song that I only discovered about a week ago. I had heard it before but only like 5 seconds of it during some perfume commercial.

It brings up a lot of stuff for me, the way the woman sings it has a lot to do with it as well I think, there are almost no instruments used in this song, but the voice (Liz Frazer, I've looked it up, never heard of her though) more than makes up for it.

You guys should all hear it.

This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren

On the floating, shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
til your singing eyes and fingers
drew me loving into your eyes.
And you sang "Sail to me, sail to me;
Let me enfold you."
Here I am, here I am waiting to hold you.
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you here when I was full sail?
Now my foolish boat is leaning, broken lovelorn on your rocks.
For you sang, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow."
Oh my heart, oh my heart shies from the sorrow.
I'm as puzzled as a newborn child.
I'm as riddled as the tide.
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Or shall I lie with death my bride?
Hear me sing: "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you."
"Here I am. Here I am, waiting to hold you."

These always seem to get me.

Sia - Breathe Me (this describes this one past year for me)
Help, I have done it again
I have been here many times before
Hurt myself again today
And the worst part is there's no one else to blame

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me, I am small and needy
Warm me up and breathe me

Ouch, I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found
Yeah, I think I might break
Lost myself again and I feel unsafe

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me, I am small and needy
Warm me up and breathe me

Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me, I am small and needy
Warm me up and breathe me

Dave Matthews Band - The Stone (I've done some of my best writing with to it, including the first thing I've ever wrote.) The lyrics, and the song itself, are pretty long, so just the chorus.

I was just wondering if
you'd come along
hold up my head when my head
won't hold on
I'll do the same if the same's what you want
But if not I'll go,
I will go alone

speaking of Dave Matthews Band... I also love the words to Grey Street but I know I've posted them here somewhere before.

I'll Back You Up (DMB)

I remember thinking
I'll go on forever only knowing
I'll see you again
But I know
The touch of you is so hard to remember
But like that touch I know no other
And for sure we have danced
In the risk of each other
Would YOU like to dance
Around the world with me

I'll be falling all about my own thing
And I know you're the heaviest weight
When you're not here that's hung
Around my head

And your lips burn wild
Thrown from the face of a child
And in your eyes
The seeing of the greatest few
Do what you will, always
Walk where you like, your steps
Do as you please, I'll back you up

I remember thinking
Sometimes we walk
Sometimes we run away
But I know
No matter how fast we are running
Somehow we keep
Somehow we keep up with each other

I'll be falling all about my own thing
And i know your the heaviest weight
When your not here that's hung
Around my head

And your lips burn wild
Thrown from the face of a child
And in your eyes
The seeing of the greatest few
Do what you will, always
Walk where you like, your steps
Do as you please, I'll back you up

a friend recently performed this & dedicated it to me. so that was pretty special.

"such great heights - the postal service"

I am thinking it's a sign that the freckles
In our eyes are mirror images and when
We kiss they're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate that God himself
Did make us into corresponding shapes like
Puzzle pieces from the clay
And true, it may seem like a stretch, but
Its thoughts like this that catch my troubled
Head when you're away when I am missing you to death
When you are out there on the road for
Several weeks of shows and when you scan
The radio, I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great
Heights, 'come down now,' they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
'come down now,' but we'll stay...

I tried my best to leave this all on your
Machine but the persistent beat it sounded
Thin upon listening
And that frankly will not fly. You will hear
The shrillest highs and lowest lows with
The windows down when this is guiding you home

I'll meet you in West Germany
October 1983
I know that freedom was a lie
I know your husband was a spy
You say that words are impotent
But they can help us pay the rent
I knew for sure there was nothing left
Except the vodka on your breath

We meet in Strasbourg
In Strasbourg
Dann sind wir Helden
We meet in Strasbourg

The courage that your father plucked
From inside a cattle truck
Will help us fix the exit polls
Our children must have rock'n'roll
Surveillance cameras captured dawn
Breaking on the autobahn
I knew for sure our chance was blown
When rifles made you feel at home

We meet in Strasbourg
In Strasbourg
Dann sind wir Helden
We meet in Strasbourg
We meet in Strasbourg
In Strasbourg
Dann sind wir Helden
We meet in Strasbourg

Eins, zwei, drei, vier

Ideas can change the government
But they never listen to our arguments
On TV our friends smashed cement
And pulled down the bastards monuments
I went outside for a cigarette
I could see things I had tried to forget
The news showed us who we had left
And I could smell the vodka on your breath

Artist:The Rakes
Song:Strasbourg

Living in the City of New Orleans
I'm gettin' by, but poor as poor can be
I voted for the man who'd keep me safest
By God, I knew he'd do alright by me.

All along the length of Bourbon Street friendly faces smile at me
Strolling down past cafes, pubs and bars
Passing I remember when, city full of old black men
Played saxaphones under the moon and stars.

Good mornin' America, how are you?
Don't you know me? I'm your native son!
I'm the place they call the City of New Orleans
I'll be doing fine soon as this storm is gone.

You know some say you lied to take us to war
Betting our lives, hoping no one's keeping score
Cut our funds and hoping for the best
But I hear the waves lapping at my door

You said no one could ever forsee this disaster
But that lie you tried to spread was soon revealed
Families with no cash or car, prayed to God to please stand guard
But the rising tide just would not recede

Good mornin' America, how are you?
Say don't you know me? I'm your native son!
I'm the jewel called the City of New Orleans.
I'll be under 20 feet when the day is done.

Swimming through the City of New Orleans
Wish I was in Memphis, Tennessee
Superdome, yeah we'll be there by morning'
And the federal government sure will rescue me

But all the men and women seem to drown in this bad dream
And the journalists still ain't told the truth
The president, he lies again
And asks us not to assign blame
This rain's sure made me lose my faith in you

Good night America, how are you?
Say don't you know me? I'm your native son!
I'm the lesson called the City of New Orleans.
I'll lose 50,000 lives before the nightmare's gone.

The techno remix of this song always makes me feel so sad :(

Life it seems, will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free

Things are not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can’t be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now he’s gone

No one but me can save myself, but it’s too late
Now I can’t think, think why I should even try

Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death greets me warm, now I will just say good-bye

  I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside i feel to scream
This terrible silence stops me

Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, i cannot see
That theres not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now

Hold my breath as i wish for death
Oh please god wake me

Back in the womb it's much to real
In pumps life that i must feel
But can't look forward to reveal
Look to the time when i live

Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a war time novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me

Hold my breath as i wish for death
Oh please god wake me

Now the world is gone i'm just one
Oh god help me
Hold my breath as i wish for death
Oh please god help me

Darkness imprisoning me
All that i see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell

Landmine has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with a life in hell

I’ll sing myself to sleep
A song from the darkest hour
Secrets I can’t keep
Inside of the day
Swing from high to deep
Extremes of sweet and sour
Hope that God exists
I hope I pray

Drawn by the undertow
My life is out of control
I believe this wave will bear my weight
So let it flow

Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
In sympathy

Now I’m relieved to hear
That you’ve been to some far out places
It’s hard to carry on
When you feel all alone
Now I’ve swung back down again
It’s worse than it was before
If I hadn’t seen such riches
I could live with being poor

Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
In sympathy

Those who feel the breath of sadness
Sit down next to me
Those who find they’re touched by madness
Sit down next to me
Those who find themselves ridiculous
Sit down next to me
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate

Down
Down

Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
In sympathy

Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
In sympathy

Down
