  Hey kids,

So I recently found this site iomoio.com that lets you download songs or .15 cents... which is rad for those of us that like our music the legal way [ahahahaha... jk].

anyway, i've been meaning to amp up my Tom Wait collection... seeing as how I only have ONE song [the shame] though i've heard others.

got any recommendations??

i'm also interested to see what GTers would say are their favorite bands/ songs that MUST be downloaded. any staples you can't LIVE without??

I don't download a ton of music, but then I do I'm using Limewire now. If I end up in hell I'm blaming hif because he's the one that told me to use it.

*and, no...if hif told me to jump off a cliff I'd climb up to the edge and then push christophe off instead. I'm afraid of heights.

Use limewire, it's free musical goodness.

Anyway, songs with some of their lyrics to give you an idea (yes I'm trying to postpone studying)

Tom waits:

Earth died screaming

There was thunder
There was lightning
Then the stars went out
And the moon fell from the sky
It rained mackerel
It rained trout
And the great day of wrath has come
And here's mud in your big red eye
The poker's in the fire
And the locusts take the sky
And the earth died screaming
While I lay dreaming,
And the earth died screaming,
While I lay dreaming,
Dreaming of you

gun street girl

Now the rain's like gravel on old tin roof
And the Burlinton Northern's pullin' out of the world
With a head full of bourbon and a dream in the straw.
And a Gun Street Girl was the cause of it all,
A gun street girl was the cause of it all

heartattack and vine

boney's high on china white, shorty found a punk, don't you know there ain't
no devil, there's just god when he's drunk, well this stuff will probably kill you, let's do another line, what you say you meet me down on heartattack and
vine.

lucinda

I made a wish on a sliver of moonlight
A sly grin and a bowl full of stars
Like a kid who captures a firefly
And leaves it only to die in the jar

As I kick at the clouds at my hanging
As I swing out over the crowd
I will search every face for Lucinda's
And she will go off with me down to hell

I thought I'd broke loose of Lucinda
The rain returned and so did the wind
I cast this burden on the god that's within me
And I'll leave this old world and go free

The devil dances inside empty pockets
But she never wanted money or pearls
No, that wasn't enough for Lucinda
She wasn't that kind of girl

watch her disappear

And from a window across the lawn I watched you undress
Wearing your sunset of purple tightly woven around your hair
That rose in strangled ebony curls
Moving in a yellow bedroom light
The air is wet with sound
The faraway yelping of a wounded dog
And the ground is drinking a slow faucet leak
Your house is so soft and fading as it soaks the black summer heat

little drop of poison

Did the devil make the world while God was sleeping
Someone said you'll never get a wish from a bone
Another wrong goodbye and a hundred sailors
That deep blue sky is my home

Mr Siegal

i spent all my money in a mexican whorehouse, across the street from a
catholic church, and then i wiped off my revolver, and i buttoned up my
burgundy shirt, i shot the morning in the back, with my red wings on, i told
the sun he'd better go back down, and if i can find a book of matches, i'm
goin' to burn this hotel down.

you got to tell me brave captain, why are the wicked so strong, how do the
angels get to sleep, when the devil leaves the porchlight on.

Swordfishtrombones

Well he came home from the war
with a party in his head
and an idea for a fireworks display
and he knew that he'd be ready with
a stainless steel machete
and a half a pint of Ballentine's
each day
and he holed up in room above a hardware store
cryin' nothing there but Hollywood tears
and he put a spell on some
poor little Crutchfield girl
and stayed like that for 27 years

Jockey full of bourbon

Hey little bird, fly away home
Your house is on fire; your children are alone
Hey little bird, fly away home
Your house is on fire; your children are alone
Schiffer broke a bottle on Morgan's head
And I've been stepping on the devil's tail
Across the stripes of full moon's head
Through the bars of a Cuban jail
Bloody fingers on a purple knife
A flamingo drinking from a cocktail glass
I'm on the lawn with someone else's wife
Come admire the view from up on top of the mast

Hope I Don't Fall In Love With You

Well I've had two, I look at you, and you look back at me,
The guy you're with has up and split, the chair next to you's free,
And I hope that you don't fall in love with me.
And I hope that you don't fall in love with me.
Now it's closing time, the music's fading out
Last call for drinks, I'll have another stout.
Turn around to look at you, you're nowhere to be found,
I search the place for your lost face, guess I'll have another round
And I think that I just fell in love with you.

In the colloseum

A slowly acting poison
Will be given to the favorite one
THe dark horse will bring glory
To the jailer and his men
It's always much more sporting
When there's families in the pit
And the madness of the crowd
Is an epileptic fit
In the colosseum

No justice here, no liberty
No reason, no blame
There's no cause to taint the sweetest taste of blood
And greetings from the nation
As we shake the hands of time
They're taking their ovations
The vultures stay behind
In the colosseum, in the colosseum
In the colosseum tonight

black wings

When the moon is a cold chiseled dagger
Sharp enough to draw blood from a stone
He rides through your dreams on a coach
And horses and the fence posts
In the midnight look like bones

Well they've stopped trying to hold him
With mortar, stone and chain
He broke out of every prison
Boots mount the staircase
The door is flung back open
He's not there for he has risen
He's not there for he has risen

big in japan

I got the powder but not the gun
I got the dog but not the bun
I got the clouds but not the sky
I got the stripes but not the tie

But heh I'm big in Japan I'm big in Japan I'm big in Japan

Heh ho they love the way I do it
Heh ho there's really nothing to it

I got the moon I got the cheese
I got the whole damn nation on their knees
I got the rooster I got the crow
I got the ebb I got the flow

lowside of the road

Jezebel is naked
With an axe
The prosecution tell you
To relax
Your head feels like it's ready
To explode
You're rollin over, you're rollin over

The dog won't bite if you beat
Him with a bone
She's so shy when she's
Talkin on the phone
The round rises up and starts to groan
You're rollin over to the
Lowside of the road

get behind the mule

Choppity chop goes the axe in the woods
You gotta meet me by the fall down tree
Shovel of dirt upon a coffin lid
And I know they'll come lookin for me boys
And I know they'll come a-lookin for me

Got to get behind the Mule
In the morning and plow

what's he building

He has no friends
But he gets a lot of mail
I'll bet he spent a little
Time in jail...
I heard he was up on the
Roof last night
Signaling with a flashlight
And what's that tune he's
Always whistling...
What's he building in there?
What's he building in there?

We have a right to know

chocolate jesus

Don't go to church on Sunday
Don't get on my knees to pray
Don't memorize the books of the Bible
I got my own special way
Bit I know Jesus loves me
Maybe just a little bit more

I fall on my knees every Sunday
At Zerelda Lee's candy store

alice

And so a secret kiss
Brings madness with the bliss
And I will think of this
When I'm dead in my grave
Set me adrift and I'm lost over there
And I must be insane
To go skating on your name
And by tracing it twice
I fell through the ice
Of Alice
There's only Alice

god's away on business

I'd sell your heart to the junkman baby
For a buck, for a buck
If you're looking for someone
To pull you out of that ditch
You're out of luck, you're out of luck

The ship is sinking
The ship is sinking
The ship is sinking
There's leak, there's leak,
In the boiler room

sins of my father

God said don't give me your
Tin horn prayers
Don't buy roses off the street down there
Took it all and took the dirt road home
Dreaming of Jenny with the light brown hair
Night is falling like a bloody axe
Lies and rumors and the wind at my back
Hand on the wheel gravel on the road

Birds cry warning from a hidden branch
Carving out a future with a gun and an axe
I'm way beyond the gavel and the laws of man
Still living in the palm of the grace of your hand
The worlds not easy the blind man said
Turns on nothing but money and dread
Dogs been scratching at the door all nite
Long neck birds flying out of the moon light

make it rain

I'm close to heaven
Crushed at the gate
They sharpen their knives
On my mistakes

What she done, you can't give it a name
You gotta make it rain
Make it rain, yeah!

Without her love
Withour your kiss
Hell can't burn me
More than this
I'm burning up all this pain
Put out the fire
Make it rain!

lie to me

I know you got another jockey at home
Let me be your rider till your real man comes
Whip me baby, lie like a dog
I really don't care if you do

Lie to me baby
Uh huh, lie to me baby
Lie to me baby
Lie to me baby - move on

I know you got yourself a skinny ol' man
Let me be your baby, I know that I can
Slap me baby, give me your grief
I have no use for the truth
Lie to me baby - move on

long way home

Got a head full of lightning
A hat full of rain
And I know that I said
I'd never do it again
And I love you pretty baby but I always take the long way home

Something very different that also might take a little effort to get used to but which is good nonetheless:

Juliette & the licks

20 Year Old Lover

Hey-Hey let me talk to you for a second. I was wonderin' maybe I could pick you up at your mother's house and you could gimme a little kiss before she kicks me out. I got so many questions for like: What were you like in high school? Did you make all them girls nervous too? I just wanna do so many things to you. You know like, maybe sit in your bedroom and you could tell me about stories when you were younger and I don't know - show me your record collection, put your hand on my leg. I don't know maybe you're sick!! It's not right...ow-ow

purgatory blues

There are no real innocents no matter whose side your on
Its a littered path to paradise honey that will always steer you wrong
Put your hands where I can see 'em
Put your hands next to mine
I wanted something to believe in before I got sold on the lie

Get it in throw in your cheap shots, cheap shot baby
Isn't that all life really is, a bunch of have nots
And the gods will laugh when you think you've found your lot
And take it all away

comin' around

I gotta feel you right now; comin' around
I'm on fire. I'm comin' around. I'm on fire

I got nothin' to lose
There's so much at stake, why can't I make you feel used
I see your two eyes
I need a torchlight
They say I'm on, I'm off
I got the game the ladies all want
You're comin' around

It's somethin' within
I can tell you I like good night
A kiss and a simple goodbye.

I feel you baby when you're so alive
Comin' around. Comin' around
I gotta feel you right now
I'm on fire
I'm comin' around
I feel alright

pray for the band latoya

I'm acting cold
I feel scared and I'm all alone
I'm just wishing that you don't ever leave
No matter how hard I make it seem
Pray for the band Latoya
It's not like it's killing me
But all the hope I've ever known comes down to realizing this dream.

you're speaking my language

I know you think you know me better than that
I beat your dog 'cause he hit on my cat
I wipe my face off and give your kisses back, baby.

You're speakin' my language baby
You're speakin' my language baby
You're speakin' my language baby
Keep the pinball rollin'.

All the boys and all of the girls
Quit your drugs
Shape it up
Rule the world
I wanna feed you like a bunch of baby birds
Punch your mind
Make sure that you heard
Another reckless little don't ya know
You think you're winning when your winning to lose.
