Today is Remembrance Day / Veteran's Day, depending on whether you're in Canadaland or Americaville. I hope everybody took time to pay their respects.

That said, some social commentary via Google:

vs.

http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q="veterans+day+sales"

Made me v v sad. c'mon, America, get your shit together!

we have butchered the holiday. but! it was a smaller town in kansas that created veteran's day for the US. they celebrated it for two years before it was a national holiday.

Actually Veterans Day was originally Armistice Day and celebrated the end of ww1.

Memorial Day is an observance of our war dead and we do observe it with dignity here.

Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day to pay our respects to ALL veterans be they dead or living and it's not really a holiday for all here unless you work for a bank or the govt.

Sadly, probably more than half our population didn't even know it was Veterans Day until they found out why their mail didn't run.

I'm not a veteran of any foreign wars, but I have a few scars from the war between men and women.

If anyone wants to see them just let me know.
