Very interesting if you're interested in colour and you'd better be!

it's things like this that make me wish i were back in school. I always enjoyed hearing about these weird cultural/linguistic things in anthro classes.

  Awesome.

I am currently learning Ojibwa [Native Canadian/American language]. While they now do have separate words for green and blue, after reading your post, I suspect they didn't always have one for green. I did a mini investigation...

The word for green is "aniipiiwaate". If you break it down:

ani- : away from, in progress toward, gradual onset

pi- : here, towards

waate: colour

If they used rainbows in the sky to develop their colour-words, this word would be away-from-yellow-towards-blue colour!

:)

The only other colour-words they have are for: red, yellow, blue, black and white.
[brown and orange are the same as yellow, purple the same as blue].

That breaks my heart a little. My inner poet is curled up on the floor and crying.

Actually while we're on the subject, "funny" and "interesting" mean the same word in Japanese, omoshiroi.

So a theory on quantum physics can be as omishiroi as someone putting a condom up their nose and out through their mouth.

I don't know, it kindof blew my mind when I realized it. It's like, you will never know if your sweet anecdotes are clever and insightful, cutesy, or downright hilarious because they suck.

INTERESTING YO
