Kiss
Patrick Goins
22 Jan 2004
III. Kiss It is quiet and dark in the driveway, Lost down some forgotten road that leads to nowhere. My breath heaves and recedes as the tide, Washing over the windows and fogging them. We are alone. As alone as two lovers can be, in the shadows, In the shade of her parents' home. I stumble, mumbling words that have no meaning. She leans forward and gently touches her lips to mine, And I am as a dead fish, frozen in time, eyes open Mouth puckered and wet, silent and fresh. Then she is gone and I am left to drive down forgotten roads Toward a home that waits for me.
